How do I remove semi-permanent varnish?
There are two main methods for removing semi-permanent nail polish. The first is with acetone: lightly file the polish surface with a polishing block to make it more porous, then wrap each nail with acetone-soaked absorbent cotton and aluminum foil. Leave for a few minutes (depending on the nail polish, we recommend 10-15 minutes on average), then remove. Semi-permanent varnish should peel off easily!
The second method uses an electric sander. Select a sanding tip suitable for semi-permanent varnish and gently sand the varnish, taking care not to touch the nail surface. It's a meticulous job! Then simply remove any remaining residue with a cotton pad and acetone.
UV gel or semi-permanent varnish?
Each technique has its own advantages! Depending on the client's needs, one may be more suitable than the other:
-
Manicure with semi-permanent : semi-permanent varnish (gel polish) is easier to apply than UV gel. It can be applied in the same way as conventional nail polish, provided that it is catalyzed under a UV or LED lamp between coats. As well as offering a fine, glossy finish and lasting up to three weeks without retouching, it provides good coverage and doesn't addThickness to the nail. In short, it's ideal if your customer wants a beautiful manicure without necessarily lengthening or hardening her nails;
-
Manicure with UV gel : UV gel is not really a nail polish as such, but a material designed to reinforce natural nails. It takes longer to apply (often requiring more coats, which must always be catalyzed under a UV lamp), but lasts longer than a semi-permanent nail polish: usually up to four weeks.
Does semi-permanent nail polish damage my nails?
No, semi-permanent nail polish does not damage nails, as long as certain points are observed.
It's essential to apply and remove nail polish correctly, to avoid damaging the nail's protective keratin layer, and to use the right products for manicure. At Velvet Extension, our semi-permanent nail polishes are of the highest quality, designed to enhance your customers' nails without damaging them. We even have a special range of base rubbers to protect nails that are already fragile.
However, don't hesitate to let your nails breathe between two semi-permanent applications, and moisturize them with a nourishing oil or cream. With these tips, your nails have a bright future ahead of them!
Why doesn't my semi-permanent varnish catalyze?
If your semi-permanent varnish isn't catalyzing properly, here are a few avenues to explore:
-
Faulty UV or LED lamp: if your lamp is obsolete or not powerful enough (the minimum recommended wattage for a UV lamp is 36 watts, and 24 LEDs minimum for an LED lamp), then polymerization of the semi-permanent varnish may be complicated or even impossible. Be sure to observe the catalysis time indicated on the bottle!
-
Semi-permanent varnish is applied incorrectly: make sure you apply thin layers of semi-permanent varnish and catalyze each layer separately. Thick coats take longer to dry and may not catalyze completely. Don't forget the base coat and top coat, essential for good adhesion of the product to the nail surface.
Why doesn't my semi-permanent varnish last?
Nail preparation is essential for a good manicure. It's important to clean nails thoroughly with a degreaser and file them lightly before applying semi-permanent nail polish, to remove any traces of grease or oil that might prevent the product from adhering. Don't forget to push back cuticles.
Thick coats of semi-permanent varnish not only affect the quality of the catalysis, but also the durability of the manicure over time. They are more likely to peel off, so apply thin coats and cure each time according to the instructions!
Last but not least, certain external factors can take their toll on a manicure: knocks, shocks, household products on unprotected hands, significant temperature variations, excessive exposure to water, etc. Opt for quality semi-permanent nail polishes like those available from Velvet Extension !
